Thousands of translation jobs, millions of translation jobs, billions of translation jobs…     …in the past, present and future, but especially
for the last 10 years along with the rise of internet.

For language translation jobs, it may be imagined that translation of a
single word is at the one end while large multi-language projects is at
the other end.

The first may require simply referring to a dictionary while the latter
may require the coordination of a team of translation professionals,
effective utilization of CAT Tools, strict adherence to any and all
critical deadlines, following of established QC procedures, and
sensitivity to confidentiality concerns.

As a translation agent, we generally regard most translation jobs “as
a project” because of the need for management (some set of decisions)
based on well-thought procedures.

It is clear that each job is unique. However, they all share some
degree of similarity. Although prescribed procedures are helpful in
order to standardize management efforts, translation projects are so complex and various in kind that prescribed procedures may not
literally cover all aspects of every project. Therefore, when assigning
a job, one must always keep in mind the need for a Project Manager
(PM) who makes a special set of decisions unique to each project. 

Each translation project is supervised by a project manager who is responsible for carrying out the project in accordance with the
prescribed procedures and client expectations.

Thorough examination of a whole translation project by a Project
Manager is paramount where some c
ritical decisions involve:

As well as being experienced in professional translation, the
   translator(s) should ideally have the same educational and practical  
  
background with the content.

   In the course of a translation, similar documents are very
   helpful in determining the style of text.

5. CAT tools
